A close friend of mine lost 2 adults and 5 beautiful puppies to bullets because of this law.
I feel it is unethical. No matter what kind of animal a person has, as long as it is well cared for and obedient it has a right to exist.
Ohio is 20 mintutes from me. Anyone can breed or purchase wolf hybrids. How is that fair?
It makes no sence at all to me.
What do you think?
i honestly think it is OK, but the dog just needs to get trained in order to no become like a wolf, because if he OE she starts acting like a wolf then there will be a problem.
The only bad thing is this beautiful animal will start to eat other animals, including cats. make a protest. I don't think it is fair to judge a dog by its coat, do u?
wolfs should live in the wilderness
There are no wolves in Australia.
However, I'd not like to think if my dog cross bread with a dingo (wouldn't happen - she is desexed) that I could keep the pups and they could live their lives out.
There must be a reason for this law.
If you can't stop your female Shepard from getting pregnant by a wolf, there is something really wrong with you. That should not even be a concern, unless you want it to happen. There is a reason it is illegal, and many states where it isn't illegal are trying to change that.
A relative of mine had one years ago. At first it was a great dog. However at age 2, it became a highly reactive dog that was very hard to control. The dog could easily have killed someone. It had a prey drive that was off the charts as compared to what you see in other dogs, even those known for a high prey drive. It was triggered by children running, crying, other animals. It was just a danger. They sought professional help by a trainer and behaviorist. They eventually had to place the dog with a group that could offer these dogs a place to live.
I would not ever feel good living next to one. Most of the people who own these are novice people who got one because it was cool and different. They wanted a wolf and this was a close as they could get. They don't know what they are doing and it could cost someone their life.
Wolves were not meant to be pets and it is mentally cruel to keep a dog that has even half that mentality.
Hopefully it will be illegal in all states soon.
I am an Australian and we have similar laws governing our Dingos. I do agree that it is harsh, particularly on the animals that they are destroyed due to their parentage, but think of this too.
Imagine that your neighbour or even yourself had a dog with some wolf in it. Chances are that it is a beautiful, well behaved animal. But then your 4 year old is playing in the backyard and kicks his toe. He is running and limping back to the house and crying. A wolf's instinct is to catch and kill prey, and they naturally target weak or injured prey. This family pet would easily revert to instinct and rip this child apart. It happens all the time.
Trust me, you would be far more hurt and horrified by the violent mauling death of an innocent victim than the humane euthanasia of the animal that killed.
As for the discrepancy in law between states, this is evident everywhere, but I would be thankful that your state protects its citizens and children by outlawing dangerous breeds.
i believe that no dog or in this case half wolf should be shot or put to sleep they should get a chance just like every other dog
