What is the law about giving injections and filling prescriptions, when you arent a nurse?

My mother in law wants to know. Is there a law that says you MUST be a a nurse, MA, LPN, etc. in order to give injections (B12) and call in prescriptions for patients? She asks because someone that works in the office where she is a Medical Assistant, used to work at the front desk. She has no certification and she is now taking patients back, calling in their prescriptions, and giving alot of injections (other than pain killers) to the patients. Is she/the doctor breaking a law?

I'd think that at the very least you'd need a phlebotomy certification.

I have seen this in a Dr. office before also, I don't know what the law requires. but I am sure that Dr. will be subject fines. If caught. The best way to find out is to call the A.M.A, N.H.A, O.S.H.A, or The office of Proffessional Regulation, on your states website
