Why and how do we allow law enforcement to completely ignore illegal immigrants?

As Americans we are immediately held accountable for breaking US law, yet illegals are discussed all the time with no emphasis on the fact that they have broken our law and should be punished.

Under federal law, local, state, and most federal police do not have jurisdiction to enforce immigration law, (unless they have been given authority to do so by ICE). Most cops would enforce these laws if they had the power to do so.

You sound like a very biased person. Their only here illegally because we say its illegal. Do you blame these people for wanting a new chance at life, equal opportunity, and the ability to pursue happiness however they may choose? If you were in their shoes you would be here too. When Illegals break the law we punish them just the same as any other American... your question is when they break the law why don't we send them back to their country. The answer is because if we did that then no immigrants would call the police for anything in fear of being deported so crime would just go unreported. You can't have a justice system where people are scared to call the police in fear of being deported so we don't send them back if they report a crime to keep our justice system running the way it should.

illegals have the same punishment as citizens do. I don't know where you live but our laws are the same for everyone. They are no different, therefore they are treated the same as far as our law enforcement goes. Once in awhile one may get away with speeding or drunk driving but so do a lot of citizens. Our system is so full right now of people breaking the law that there just isn't enough room to keep them locked up anymore. We should concentrate on how we can build more facilities to hold criminals and law breakers than to try and figure out why some get away with crimes and others don't. It also depends on the mood the police officer is in at the time of arrest. On a good day for him, He may let you go with just a warning but on the other hand if it has been a bad day... Look out...

I think that unless these people commit felonies they should be left alone. They are in this country because conditions in their own country were so horrible they came here for freedom.
