What law is it that phohibits the unlawful taking of an animal?

My dad said theft, but surely that can't be right? It would be kidnapping if it were a human. What law is it?

Depends on the state and what kind of animal. If it's a domesticated animal such as a cat or dog, it's a misdemeanor theft in most places, if it's a high dollar show dog or something it could be a felony theft based on the dollar amount, if it's an agricultural production animal such as a cow or a horse it's felony theft.

Its theft, an animal is not classified as a human being and since it is sold in bussiness it is going to be under "items" or not living even though we all know it is. The law is theft.
