What is the law concerning being late to work due to voting?

I was under the assumption (correct me if I am wrong) that if you are tardy due to voting in a federal election (presidential, congressional, primaries, etc.), your job cannot reprimand you for it, but I have been told otherwise by someone else. Does anyone know what the law is in this case? Thanks!

Most states require an employer give time off to vote. However, you'd have to clear that time with them. You can't just walk in late and say you were voting.

Some people work 12 hour shifts an would need time off for voting.

The polls are open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.

There should be no reason for you to miss time from work to vote.

Depends on what state you live in.

They could fire you. There is no protection for voting and work. You might be thinking about JURY DUTY. You can't be fired for serving on jury duty.
