What are the basic requirements to enter a law school?

I'm a software Developer with masters in computer science. But my dream is to be lawyer, is it a good idea for a IT Tech guy going to law ?

What exams and activities I need to do in order enter a law school?

As a software developer, you would be a very strong candidate for patent law, if that's what you'd like to do. (In order to even be able to take the specialized certification exam after graduating from law school, you have to have a technical degree - which you already have.) You would also be a strong candidate for copyright law or e-commerce. It would also be a great background for litigation or even corporate law, because technological issues form a big part of both of these.

It would be helpful for you to consider what area of law you think you'd like to practice and aim your preparation towards that. The best activities for you would show you have a strong working knowledge not only of the tech aspects of computer science, but the business and social aspects, too. In other words, you know how they're used, how they fit into a business plan, how they need to be safeguarded and regulated, security risks, etc.

Working in a company in an area related to what you'd like to do would be helpful. There are also various professional organizations focusing on different aspects of computer technology. You should consider joining and becoming active in one or more, and possibly doing presentations or publishing articles. You should also consider joining an organization like your state bar association or the ABA and then joining a technology or intellectual property section or committee. (The ABA and some state bars allow non-lawyers to join as associates.)

The requirements will vary a little between different law schools. If you want to enter a law school in the top tier, then exceptional academic results throughout your academic career and LSAT will be a minimum.

Contact a few law schools or check out their websites for entry requirements.

Yes, I think it is a good idea for an IT guy to enter law school. Like IT it requires good analytical skills which most IT guys/gals have.

I am studying both law and engineering (civil) and I can see many instances as an engineer when my knowledge of law will stand me in good stead. Alternatively, if I want to work as a lawyer I can specialize in areas related to engineering. It's a great combination to have.
