Is it legal by California law that a high school teacher make an after school laboratory mandatory to attend?

My son is in AP Chemistry this year and his teacher is making him attend a mandatory laboratory once a week for two hours after school. The lab is graded so he has to attend, but I don't see how a student can be forced to attend a lab once a week for the entire school year. It interferes with other activities after school. I can't believe this is allowable by law.

rousse54, Only the students really know for sure. http://www.onlinehighschoolreviews.com/California-High-Schools.html

I dont see how a lab could be made mandatory if it is held after school. I know many AP level students who are in sports that practice from 1:30-5:30 every day. Poor planning by the teacher.

I'm pretty sure it is. I know lots of teachers who do it. I've heard parents complain but the teachers always win. Especially since it's an AP class.
