Well, just exactly how does a law get passed? Can someone explain the step-by-step process please?
From my understanding, the president makes the proposal, and than what?
First a bill is written
Then it goes to the House and is referred to committees. Once it is decided it is worthy, it goes to the whole House for a vote. If it is passed . . .
Then it goes to the Senate and is referred to committees. Once it is decided it is worthy, it goes to the whole Senate for a vote. If it is passed . .
but there are two different versions of the same bill, a joint committee from the House and Senate must combine the two bills into one. It is then voted on by the House and the Senate. If it passes both houses it is sent to the President for his signature or his veto. If he signs it, it is a law. If he vetoes it, it goes back to Congress to either be revised and/or dropped. There are so many steps to getting a bill passed that there are literally hundreds of bills that never even make it.
But what if you wanted to make a law that stated congress actually had to work 8 hour days mon-fri with NO SUMMERS OFF this is not middle school. I doubt they would vote that in. what do we do?????? R government is so disorganized http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080213161132AAp3FVx&kid=GYIrBVXJO1rLOQRkEpdq&s=comm&date=2008-08-16+20%3A15%3A01&.crumb=
The short version is that Congress passes the law, then the president approves it by signing it.
The long version is here: http://www.ncleg.net/NCGAInfo/Bill-Law/bill-law.html
Somebody has an idea. A congressman writes up a bill.
This bill is referred to committee. It passes out of committee and is voted on by the entire body. It passes.
The same bill must be passed by the other branch (House/Senate). With a few exceptions, any bill can start in either House.
Typically, both Houses work on bills with similar focus. When they do, the bills go to a conference committee with members of both the House and Senate and work out a compromise. The bill is re-submitted to both houses, both pass it.
Then the President signs it, and it becomes law.
Each house has a number of internal rules about how debate proceeds, what amendments to the bill will be offered, and how a bill will progress.
Well if you want to change anything heres your chance to be heard. I personally will hold a quiet and peacefull protest outside a US courthouse. We as the HUMAN RACE will not by and let anyone ever dictate to anyone anymore. WE THE HUMAN RACE need to do something about it. SO watch news broadcast around April 18 th..
